Charlton Athletic 2 v 0 Fleetwood Town

Saturday 22nd January 2022, Kick-off 15.00
EFL League One
The Valley, Charlton
Admission: Season Ticket
Programme: £3.00
Attendance: 21,811 (192 away)

Today would be my first game back at The Valley since New Year’s Day, and my first game back at my allocated season ticket seat since early November, having taken advantage of bringing my partner and sitting in various stands for each game

Unfortunately, Charlton’s form certainly hasn’t improved in the league since then. After progressing in the EFL Trophy, with a 1-0 win at home to MK Dons , the Addicks were unfortunate to lose to a late goal against Premier League Norwich City at The Valley . The Addicks returned to league action with a 2-1 defeat at Crewe followed by a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham, with an equaliser four minutes into added in time at the end of the game. That has meant that any lingering hopes for being in contention for the play-offs have surely been extinguished, coming into this game down in 15th place, 13 places adrift of the play-offs, but only six points clear of the relegation spots. On paper, today’s game surely represented a good opportunity for the Addicks to get their first win in five league games, with Fleetwood down in 19th place, following seven wins and seven draws from their 25 league games, but they have won their last two league games, beating bottom of the table Doncaster 0-1 away, before impressively beating promotion chasing Rotherham United by the same scoreline.
