From cup winners to league champs – Westfield FC complete a fabulous fortnight

Last week – county cup winners. This week – league champions. It’s not been a bad fortnight for Westfield FC’s first team.

They delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday night to secure the result they needed, defeating Hollington United 3-0 and clinching the Mid Sussex League premier division title in style.

Knowing just two points would be enough to seal top spot, the players approached the match with focus and intent.

They started brightly, and after the 20-minute mark, it became one-way traffic.

The breakthrough came when Rooney Ruigaime finished confidently from a precise pass by Dan Tewkesbury.

Westfield doubled their lead before the break as Jack Stapley arrived at the back post to make it 2-0.

The second half began with Westfield immediately on the front foot. Rooney produced a moment of brilliance, dancing through the Hollington defence before unleashing a powerful strike that nearly took the net off for the third goal.

With fading light and the result all but secured, it was a case of managing the game and seeing out time.

The victory confirmed Westfield as champions and secured step six football for 2026-27. Joe Dicken’s outstanding display earned him the MoM award.

Not only did this complete the league-cup double for the firsts, it meant a league double for the club, as the second team have won the East Sussex League premier, as we reported last week.
