Addicks fall to defeat on emotional evening

Charlton 1 Middlesbrough 2

On an emotional night at The Valley, where the club celebrated the life of iconic supporter Norman Barker, the Addicks were beaten 2–1 by second-placed Middlesbrough, despite a late push for an equaliser.

Barker, who sadly passed away on Saturday, was honoured by both sets of supporters in a classy pre-match tribute.

The visitors struck twice in the first half, but Nathan Jones’ game-changers impacted the momentum and, after George Edmundson’s 81st-minute own goal, the home side created chances to draw level.

Middlesbrough started brightly and Thomas Kaminski was forced into action early to keep Charlton in the contest. The Charlton goalkeeper produced an excellent diving save to his right to deny Hayden Hackney’s left-footed effort from outside the box, before more comfortably stopping Matt Targett’s long-range attempt.

At the other end, Sonny Carey tested Sol Brynn with a powerful strike from just outside the area, which the visiting goalkeeper gathered after parrying.

Targett then struck the side netting and Kaminski did well to block Tommy Conway’s effort with his legs.

Middlesbrough took the lead in the 34th minute when they won possession in the Charlton half. Delano Burgzorg cut the ball back from the right for the arriving Riley McGree, who finished confidently.

Moments later, Charlton felt they should have had a penalty when Luke Berry appeared to be sandwiched between two defenders, but referee Oliver Langford waved away appeals.

James Bree later fired over after meeting a partially cleared corner that had been won by Tyreece Campbell.

The visitors doubled their advantage via a swift counter-attack in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time. McGree released Morgan Whittaker, who drove a low shot across goal and beyond Kaminski.

Nathan Jones reshaped his midfield at the break, introducing Greg Docherty, Karoy Anderson and Ibrahim Fullah, bringing added intensity to Charlton’s second-half performance.

Kaminski denied McGree again with his legs before Berry’s long-range effort drifted wide.

Fullah then danced into the Middlesbrough penalty area and forced a good save from Brynn, who pushed the academy graduate’s shot behind for a corner.

Luke Ayling came close when his flicked header dipped late and clipped the crossbar.

Charlton pulled a goal back with nine minutes remaining. Lloyd Jones won possession and released Rob Apter down the right. Apter beat his man and delivered a powerful right-footed cross, which, under pressure from Miles Leaburn, deflected off Edmundson and into his own net.

The Addicks’ best chance to equalise fell to Tanto Olaofe in the 90th minute, but his half-volley from Macaulay Gillesphey’s long ball drifted wide.

Charlton will look to return to winning ways on Saturday when they travel to face Birmingham City.

Nathan Jones' side are back at The Valley on Saturday, December 20th for the visit of Oxford United. Click here to get your tickets.

London City Lionesses 0, Brighton & Hove Albion 1.

London City Lionesses beaten in their final home fixture of 2025 at the CopperJax Community Stadium, Bromley.

London City Lionesses suffered a narrow defeat in their Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion in Bromley.

Kiko Seike’s early goal was the difference between the teams.

London City also broke their record attendance for a WSL home fixture.

The Seagulls’ opener came just six minutes into the contest, Rosa Kafaji winning the ball in midfield leading a Brighton counter attack, Seike finishing well.

The hosts responded well to going behind forcing a number of strong interventions from Brighton keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie including a strike from Nikita Parris.

While the visitors dominated with the ball, their opponents were always a threat on the break.

And they could have doubled their advantage when Madison Haley won and took a penalty after a foul by Wasse Sanagaré just shy of the 20-minute mark, and her effort towards the bottom corner was excellently saved at full stretch by Elene Lete.

The home side responded through a double-effort from Grace Geyoro who was played in by Parris which were both well saved.

London City continued to pile forward towards the end of the first half, winning a flurry of corners which Brighton were able to see off.

The Seagulls nearly doubled their lead shortly after the break when Elena Linari cleared a cross off the line and Lete was forced to react quickly to collect the ball amid a goalmouth scramble.

To their credit Jocelyn Prêcheur ’s side kept pushing for a leveller. Captain Kosovare Asllani’s long-range effort was deflected before Freya Godfrey’s excellent curling effort edged narrowly wide for the hosts, Jana Fernández had a shot cleared by a last-ditch interception.

The visitors set up in a more compact fashion late on to thwart London City, who were unable to find a way past Brighton goalkeeper Nnadozie.

Jocelyn Prêcheur was disappointed with the result, "I think we definitely didn’t play the level that we expected."

"We created many chances, but we went back to the issues we had two months ago. With this many chances, especially in the first half, you have to score at least one time.

"There was a lack of consistency in the game. Maybe a lack of confidence, or energy. We need to analyse because we could’ve done so much better, and I didn’t think we deserved to lose.

"It wasn’t a positive game or result for us, but proof that we need to work harder."

This weekend’s results leave London City Lionesses in sixth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League on 15 points.

Next up, we travel to the East Midlands to take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday 14th December in our final Barclays Women’s Super League match before the winter break.

We then travel to Liverpool on Sunday 11th January before returning home to the CopperJax Community Stadium, Bromley on Sunday 25th January to host Manchester City  in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Teamsheet: Lete, Fernández, Kumagai (Kennedy 87'), Asllani, Linari, Godfrey (Franssi 76'), Parris , Goodwin (Roddar 76'), Imuran , Sangaré (Goldie 87'), Geyoro (Zelem 61').

Saints stun Dons with late leveller

ABERDEEN 3 ST. MIRREN 3
Wednesday 3 December 2025
William Hill Premiership
Pittodrie Stadium
Attendance: 14,826
Referee: Steven McLean

An enthralling second half of six goals saw Aberdeen come from behind to twice lead the game, only to concede an equaliser deep into added time having gone down to ten men through injury for the last dozen minutes.

There were four changes to the Aberdeen side that won at Livingston on Sunday with Graeme Shinnie, Sivert Heltne Nilsen, Jesper Karlsson and Marko Lazetic on the bench, to be replaced by Alexander Jensen, Dante Polvara, Topi Keskinen and Kevin Nisbet. Kenan Bilalovic replaced Nicolas Milanovic among the subs.

St. Mirren lost 3-1 at Dens Park on Saturday and made three changes for the game with Conor McMenamin, Dan Nlundulu and Declan John replaced by Scott Tanser, Fraser Taylor and Jonah Ayungu.

There was a stiff breeze blowing across Pittodrie as the game began, the Dons attacking the Red Shed. A dangerous looking corner from Stuart Armstrong almost found Nisbet at the back post in the eighth minute, but the ball just drifted beyond him.

A good move involving Armstrong, Aouchiche and Jensen culminated in Keskinen bending a shot through the box and off the post on nine minutes. Aberdeen kept hold of the ball with Dylan Lobban, but from his cross, a stooping header from Aouchiche was straight at George.

A well worked corner gave Nisbet a chance on 21. Armstrong’s delivery was flighted to the far corner of the box where Nisbet was waiting all alone, but he pushed his sidefooted volley back across goal just wide of the target. Two minutes later, he headed over after Mats Knoester came marauding forward before crossing to the back post

Taylor was the first player to be cautioned, getting a card for a late challenge on Polvara on 28 minutes.

Keskinen was in on goal on 33, chasing a poor header back from Freckleton, but he couldn’t find a shooting chance before he was crowded out, the ball breaking for Nisbet whose shot was blocked behind by Gogic.

The Dons got away with one in the 36th minute as St Mirren had the ball in the net, only for the referee to chalk it off. Taylor’s ball in was not cleared by Lobban, his header going high in the air but back into the middle of the box. Dimitar Mitov came to claim, but spilled the ball under pressure from Tanser, who drove it into the net off Nicky Devlin on the line. Fortunately, the goal was disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper.

Nisbet should have capitalised on that let off on 38. Lobban crossed a glorious ball in for the striker but at full stretch, from six yards out, he headed the ball back towards where it came from rather than at goal. Moments later, a low shot from Armstrong was pawed wide by George at his near post.

A long kick out from the keeper was flicked on and sat up nicely for Mandron to thump at goal from 20 yards after 42 minutes, Mitov away to his right to make a sharp save.

HALF-TIME: ABERDEEN 0 ST MIRREN 0
Baccus had the second half’s first opportunity, coming onto a loose ball from a St Mirren free-kick before blazing the ball over the bar from a dozen yards out. There was a VAR check for handball against Knoester, the referee sent to the monitor to look at it before giving the penalty, the ball catching Knoester. Fraser took the kick and sent Mitov the wrong way to put the Buddies in front after 55 minutes.

Two minutes later, Polvara took a pot shot from 30 yards that George saved at the second attempt as the Dons looked to up the tempo. Karlsson replaced Jensen after 59 minutes.

Karlsson and Aouchiche should both have scored in the 61st minute. Polvara played a defence splitting ball to set Keskinen on his way and he produced a precise pull-back for Karlsson. His shot was blocked by a defender but the rebound went straight to Aouchiche who stabbed the ball over the bar from the edge of the area.

Another snapshot from Polvara from 25 yards forced another sharp save from George in the 67th minute as Aberdeen looked to turn up the wick. Lazetic came on for Aouchiche a minute later.

The equaliser came in the 71st minute. Another fine corner from Armstrong caused chaos at the near post. George fumbled, Mandron tried to scoop clear, but it went straight at Polvara who smashed the ball first time into the net from the corner of the six-yard box.

Two minutes later, the Dons were in front. Armstrong’s corner was half cleared out to Karlsson and he put a low shot in at goal from 20 yards. George had it and spilled it, Lazetic following in to pick up the pieces and tapped in. The obligatory VAR check for offside followed before the goal was eventually given.

The visitors made four changes in the wake of the goals, Richardson, Baccus, Tanser and Taylor making way for Donnelly, McMenamin, King and Nlundulu after 78 minutes. Mooney came on for Mandron three minutes later.

There should have been a third for Aberdeen on 82 but instead, the visitors broke to make it 2-2.  A ball to the back post gave Nisbet a great chance but he headed back across goal instead of trying to score. St Mirren took possession and launched it forward. Under pressure from Ayunga, Milne slipped and the striker was in on goal from there, drilling the ball through Mitov at the near post.

The Dons weren’t finished though. Armstrong got the ball out on the left flank and arced a glorious cross through the area, Lazetic getting himself free of the defence to prod in from five yards out. 3-2 Aberdeen.

Heltne Nilsen and Gavin Molloy joined the fray in Aberdeen’s final changes on 89, Armstrong and Keskinen making way. Molloy was immediately involved in a heavy challenge, both requiring very lengthy treatment before carrying on. Molloy went down again moments later and his race was run, the Dons down to ten men having used all three breaks in play to make changes.

Mooney wriggled into space on 95, Knoester producing a terrific block to deny the shot. But the ten men could not hang on, conceding an equaliser in the 99th minute. McMenamin stood the ball up to the back post where King was the most determined to get on the end of it, heading home from a tight angle.

Aberdeen: Mitov, Lobban, Devlin, Knoester, Milne, Jensen (Karlsson 59), Polvara, Aouchiche (Lazetic 68), Keskinen (Molloy 89), Armstrong (Heltne Nilsen 89), Nisbet.

Subs not used: Suman, Shinnie, Clarkson, Bilalovic, Kjartansson.

 Goals: Polvara (71), Lazetic (73, 85)

St. Mirren: George, Fraser, Gogic, Freckleton, Richardson (McMenamin 78), Phillips, Baccus (Nlundulu 78), Tanser (King 78), Taylor (Donnelly 78), Mandron (Mooney 81), Ayunga.

Subs not used: Mullen, Dijksteel, Idowu, Sobowale.

Goals: Fraser (55 (pen)), Ayunga (82), King (90+9)

Booked: Taylor

Saints pick up point after battling performance
Match Reports
 04 December 2025
St Mirren earn a last gasp point away to Aberdeen, thanks to a 99th min equaliser from Richard King.

The Dons scored late on themselves, after Lazetic scored a brace from the bench put them 3-2 in the 85th min, but Jamaican International Richard King came off the bench to rescue a point for St Mirren.

St Mirren were looking to end their seven league match winless run against the Dons. Aberdeen were hoping to continue their fine form, which saw them have a six game undefeated run with three wins.

St Mirren have won nine of the last 16 meetings between the two sides, whilst also winning three out of the last five matches at Pittodrie.

The Buddies made three changes from their defeat to Dundee with Scott Tanser, Fraser Taylor and Jonah Ayunga replacing the injured Declan John, Conor McMenamin and Dan Nlundulu. Mark O’Hara missed out with a foot injury.

For Aberdeen they made four changes from their win away to Livingston. In came Alexander Jensen, Dante Polvara, Tobi Keskinen and Kevin Nisbet for club captain Graeme Shinnie, Sivert Heltne Nilsen, Jesper Karlsson and Marko Lazetic. Tobers missed the game with a knee injury.

Stephen Robinson’s side got the match underway but it was Aberdeen who got the first chance of the match. Armstrong combined for a one two with Aouchiche on the left hand side, gave the ball to Keskinen on the edge of the box, whos strike had George rooted and hit the post. The ball was crossed into Nisbet, with his header going straight into the hands of George.

Jimmy Thelin’s side pushed for an opener and nearly had it again through Nisbet. Armstrong’s corner was a deep one, he found Nisbet, who peeled away from his man but volleyed wide.

St Mirren had a chance of their own moments later. A Baccus long throw found its way to Mandron and after some confusion in the box his shot went wide. Taylor was booked afterwards for a foul on Polvara, who later went down with a knee injury but was ok to continue.

Tanser thought that he had his first goal of the season to give St Mirren the lead. Taylor crossed ball into the wingback, Tanser got up high, went to win a second header and was judged to have impeded Mitov. He put the ball into the back of the net but was ruled out.

Aberdeen came back down the left. Armstrong was able to cut inside and forced George to save the shot to his lower right.

George sent the ball long to Ayunga, who flicked the ball to his strike partner Mandron. Mandron’s half volley was hit hard but was pushed away by Mitov, as it ended in the first half 0-0.

Aberdeen got the sides started in the second half and St Mirren were awarded their first penalty of the season. Taylor’s free kick was crossed into the box and handled by Knoester. After a lengthy VAR check Steven McLean awarded a penalty. Fraser stepped up and slotted it bottom left with Mitov diving the wrong way for his first goal of the season.

Thelin responded by bringing on Karlsson for Jensen and he nearly had an immediate impact. Keskinen’s low cross found the substitute just inside the box. His low driven strike looked to be going in, but a terrific block from Freckleton kept it out, before Aouchiche smashed the ball over the bar.

Aberdeen kept knocking on St Mirren’s door. After a cross from Lobban the ball found its way to Armstrong. George caught his lay off to Polvara. Lazetic was then introduced for Aouchiche.

Aberdeen got their equaliser through Polvara. An Armstrong corner was headed towards goal from Lazetic. Mandron cleared the ball off the line but it fell to Polvara who smashed it past George.

The Dons took the lead minutes later. Karlsson had a vicious moving strike that was spilt by George. Lazetic was the quickest to react, and after a brief VAR check for offside the goal was given.

Stephen Robinson responded by taking off Taylor, Tanser, Baccus Richardson and Mandron for King, McMenamin, Donnelly, Nlundulu and Mooney.

The Buddies got their equaliser through Ayunga. A long punt form Freckleton up the pitch saw Ayunga dispossess Milne, his shot went straight through Mitov and St Mirren were level.

The hosts thought they had all three points after a late goal from Lazetic. Armstrong’s cross from the left hand side was caressed in from the substitute to get his third goal in two games against the Buddies. Molloy and Nilsen then replaced Armstrong and Keskinen.

St Mirren kept pushing and eventually got their reward through substitute King. Fellow substitute McMenamin’s cross from the left hand side found the head of King, who leapt the highest and powered it past Mitov to earn St Mirren a point on the road.

Full-Time: Aberdeen 3-3 St Mirren
