Charlton 1 Millwall 1
A late equaliser denied 10-man Charlton a derby-day victory as the Addicks were held to a 1-1 draw by Millwall at The Valley.
Sonny Carey opened his Charlton account with a first-half strike and Nathan Jones’ side looked set for a deserved three points. But after Kayne Ramsay’s dismissal in the 74th minute, the visitors made their numerical advantage count, levelling with just two minutes to play.
The game began with the intensity expected of a South London derby, though clear chances were limited in the early exchanges. Ramsay fired over before Millwall’s Josh Coburn volleyed wide.
As the half wore on, Charlton took further control. Rob Apter saw a left-footed effort blocked, before another strike deflected narrowly onto the crossbar with Steven Benda beaten.
From the resulting corner, the breakthrough arrived. Benda’s punch fell to the edge of the box where Carey showed strength and composure to hold off his marker and fire low through a crowd of bodies to put the Addicks in front.
Charlton carried their momentum into the second half. Carey forced a smart save from Benda, while Miles Leaburn and Lloyd Jones both had half chances to double the advantage.
The turning point came on 74 minutes, Ramsay dismissed for a second bookable offence following a challenge on Aidomo Emakhu.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Addicks continued to threaten. Leaburn battled superbly to set up Tyreece Campbell, named Sky’s Player of the Match, but his fierce effort flew just over.
Millwall thought they had levelled when Ra’ees Bangura-Williams found the net, only for the referee to penalise him for handball. But the forward made no mistake moments later, pouncing inside the area to snatch a late equaliser for the visitors.
Charlton return to action next Saturday with a trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United.

The Seasiders had to show all their qualities to overcome another compact, strong and direct Street side to finally record their seventh straight league win.
Clevedon started with Olly Sully in for the unavailable Callum Eastwood, but Street made their intentions clear in the first 15 minutes as they closed down quickly and hit Town on the break.
This brought early success when they grabbed the lead from their first and only real chance of the first half after 17 minutes. The ball was swept out to Lewis Morgan on the left and his cross was headed firmly into the roof of the net by Freddie Haden in the middle.
Clevedon hit back straightway, and when Seb Scott was felled on the edge of the box, he hit the wall with the free-kick, and the ball was deflected out and led to a series of corners which were defended solidly with clearing headers from Eli Collins twice and Callum Laird.
With Street content sitting back it invited pressure from corners and free-kicks and Clevedon enjoyed plenty of the ball and the chances started to come. On 22 minutes Owen Humphries went past Laird and cut into the box, but the cross was cleared and Glen Hayer’s header from Luke Osgood’s long throw was gathered by Street keeper Liam Kingston.
Three minutes later Kingston was in action again with a brilliant block close in after Sully controlled Scott’s ball in from the right and looked certain to score. Humphries took the resulting corner which was cleared to Sully who was again unlucky when his goal bound shot was deflected just past the post by Eli Collins.
Clevedon went close again on 37 minutes when Sully’s quick turn brought another free-kick. Humphries curled the ball over the wall on to the underside of the bar but could only watch as the ball hit the prostrate keeper Kingston’s shoulder and was cleared.
The Seasiders finally got the goal they deserved from the resulting corner which Humphries delivered perfectly to the front post for the incoming Charlie Saunders to power home his header with Kingston helpless to keep it out this time and make the score 1-1.
James Dunn had an easy take from Haden from a rare Street break but there were further chances for Town in the nine added minutes at the end of the first half. Kingston saved another Saunders header from Scott’s free-kick, Glen Hayer launched a ball into the box which was cleared, and Kingston had to be aware of a long Dunn clearance which took a deflection, so it remained all square at half time.
The Seasiders started the second half like they ended the first and took the lead on 57 minutes with a well worked goal. Humphries’ free-kick from the left picked out Saunders to head the ball back into the middle where Scott planted his header over Kingston into the roof of the net to make it 2-1.
Just after the hour Callum Kingdon was on hand to clear after Clevedon lost the ball on halfway, but soon normal service was resumed. Saunders broke down the right to find Scott who was blocked but the ball was recycled and Dave Thorne returned it into the box for another Saunders header which was cleared.
Another rare Street break produced their best chance of the half when skipper Morgan headed into the side netting. Clevedon brought on Oscar Bridgman for Sully, to exploit space down the right and brought success on 81 minutes when Charlie Saunders won the ball on the edge of the box to find Bridgman to fire past Kingston and surely make the game safe at 3-1.
Another extended period of added time saw Clevedon looking to protect their lead with three late substitutions, but they almost added a bonus when Scott’s corner was headed downward by Saunders but bounced up and over the bar.
The final whistle brought a second successive 3-1 home win which leaves Town five points clear at the head of the table as they go into two away games at Paulton Rovers and Sidmouth Town.
