CPD Llanuwchllyn vs Bow Street FC
3 - 2

This was 2nd v 3rd, but it had huge implications. If the leaders were to slip up, there was a chance to tilt for the championship. Coupled with that, securing second place should guarantee a playoff. Both sides began the day with potential to reach the same points, so it really was all to play for.

Both teams set their stall early, to frustrate the others attack and play the ball to the wings. Bow Street were hampered in the first half by the sun shining into their faces, on what was a glorious cloudless evening. Facing a tight Llanuwchllyn unit on home turf, they had their work cut out and so it transpired.

It was the home team that was dominating the game, bringing ball after ball forward, using the speed of their wings – Gareth ap Dafydd on the right and Will Owen on the left. Bow Street looked to play a similar game with Rhys Hughes and Sion Ewart, but it didn’t feel that their impact was as great losing a lot of second balls. Ceri James belied his years to lead the back line with some astute positioning. Behind the defence, both keepers were showing good form.

It was the home team who made the first impact, Meilir Williams made some work down the left flank and squared the ball into the box for Will Owen to fire home on the 7th minute – something of a role reversal for the two players.

The game was level at half time, and Bow Street began the 2nd half with determination, but it was Llanuwchllyn who got the all important second goal. On the 56th minute, Will Owen took the ball down the left and repaid the favour to Meilir Williams, allowing him to squeeze the ball home for 2-0 and add to his already impressive goal tally for the season.

Bow Street threw everything at their hosts, but they were met with a team that was happy to pack the defence and force a high press. It was a long time coming, but perseverance finally paid off, as Tomos Wyn Roberts continued his knack of scoring crucial goals forcing the ball past Dascalu (86)

Bow Street now pushed for an equaliser and continued pressure led to a cross into the box, being met at the far post by Rhydian Davies with limited opposition right on 90 minutes.

Everyone on the sidelines expected the draw, but Llanuwchllyn threw off their shackles and bore down on the Bow Street goal during injury time. Gwydion Ifan’s feisty game bore fruit, as he muscled his way down the right wing and put the ball into the box, where an unmarked Warren Aykroyd-Duckett was on hand to put the ball past James for the winning goal in literally the last second of the game (94)

Our POTM was Will Owen, who through a combination of physicality and skill caused problems for the Bow Street defence until being subbed in the 73rd minute

Sion Tudor, Llanuwchllyn
