Following yesterday evening's entertaining and goal laden encounter, at Little Common I took in another game within Bexhill this evening, for Bexhill's first game of the season back at their usual home, the Polegrove, having had to play their opening home fixtures at Hailsham Town's home ground due to cricket.

After a change of manager and the loss of a few key players since the end of last season, Bexhill had a dreadful start to this league campaign in the Southern Combination League Premier Division, losing their first five games, but they got back on track by winning their last two league games, including a 0-4 away win at Shoreham on Saturday. And on paper, this evening's game presented a good opportunity to continue their improved form, with Forest Row from Division One, who have had almost the complete opposite to Bexhill's start to their season, winning four of their first five league games, but have since lost their last three League games.

On another pleasant evening, although noticeably fresher than yesterday evening, Bexhill opened the scoring on seven minutes, when a low cross from the left was tucked home by talisman Jack Shonk. And they doubled their lead on 27 minutes when a low ball forward found the run of Shonk, who sent a lovely dipping shot over the keeper, who was slightly in no-mans land in no-mans land, and into the net. Forest Row certainly had it all to do if they were to survive in the competition, and to be fair they battled hard as they tied to work their way back into the game. That never really looked likely though, and Bexhill made sure of their progress into the next round when Shonk converted a penalty low to the bottom left.
